21st February 2015,
9:50 approximately 10 people waiting in front of the museum. That’s quite a number considering what the locals usually do at that time (slowly sip their coffee and soak up the sun on the town’s main square Pijaca).
10:00 a.m. the numbers are increasing. We start in the museum with the curator Anita Librenjak who gives a short introduction to our tour and invites everyone to visit the museum on their own time.
10:15 a.m. we start the climb to the Old Town. By the time we reach the fortifications our group counts 40 people, mostly younger people and a surprising number of kids. Among those, there is also a group of Mexicans so while the curator interprets the remains, history and researches, I am in charge of re-interpreting those to them in English. Finally, we reach the top. We are warm from the efforts of the climb and the wind is anything but pleasant but the view is stunning. The weather is partly cloudy.
We distribute free maps of the fortifications and start our descend. We pass by the Alka Halls and continue to the church. Friar Mirko awaits us. After the Franciscan monastery there is a surprise and a treat for all participants – a stop at Mara uštipak stand – free uštipak for everyone. After all the endeavors – we deserve refreshments.
A short stop at Litrin obor and a final stop to pay tribute to Gaius Laberius.
15:55 the second group is almost complete (20 people). Neno welcomes everyone and congratulates all the tourist guides our day. There are several colleagues from Split that are interested in our charming town. The weather has worsened from this morning, wind has increased, no sunshine at all and a hat and gloves have proven to be such a good decision. All this doesn’t stop our group from completing the tour as planned and the rain starts just 90 minutes after the end of the tour.
A special thanks to all participants, curator Anita Librenjak and Jelena Bilić from the Sinj Tourist Board!
